Who are we?

The Village Golf and Sports Club is not a business or a commercial organisation; it is a club, run by its members, for its members.
The purpose of the Club is to manage the facility for the benefit of Club members and the local community.
We do not make a profit. The income from membership fees, green fees and donations pays only for the cost of maintaining the course and essential equipment and machinery. All of the Committee Members work for the Club on a voluntary basis.
Facilities at the Club are very limited. As you will see, our 'clubhouse', otherwise known as the green fees hut, is best described as unassuming.

History

Although the golf course has been established for over 50 years, it is one of Staplehurst’s best kept secrets and remains a surprise to even long standing residents of the area.
The golf and sports facilities were originally established in the early 1960’s by John Dawkins, who was the owner of the Staplehurst company Diagrit, for the benefit of employees and the local community. John Dawkins placed the land on which the sports facilities were developed in Trust to the village of Staplehurst to ensure that the leisure facility would always be available to the local community.
In 2010, the club was renamed Village Golf and Sports Club to reflect its purpose and make it clear that it is open to anyone who wishes to join.
